Charming Italianate rural scene with herdsmen and cattle by the rare Amsterdam 18th-century artist Nicolaes Aartman, formerly known as 'Monogrammist A', for his distinctive way of signing his drawings. Best known for the highly finished watercolour drawings such as the present sheet, executed for the albums of contemporary collectors. Other monochrome and signed drawings by Aartman are in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle.1
